Cruz: Boot all illegal immigs
ROUND ’EM up and ship ’em out, Ted Cruz said Monday while discussing his immigration policy on Fox News.
The Republican presidential candidate — who’s trailing immigration hard-liner Donald Trump — said he’d have no problem tracking down anyone living outside the law in the U.S.
“We have law enforcement that looks for people who are violating the laws, that apprehends them and deports them,” Cruz told Bill O’Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor.”
When challenged by a skeptical O’Reilly, the Texas senator insisted he meant business — saying he’d go after all 12 million people living here illegally.
“Listen, we should enforce the law . . . . Yes, we should deport them,” Cruz said.
“We should build a wall, we should triple the Border Patrol. Federal law requires that anyone here illegally that’s apprehended should be deported,” he repeated to a dubious O’Reilly.
After the show aired, Cruz’s spokeswoman insisted to reporters that nothing had changed about his immigration policy.
“Cruz has been very clear,” Catherine Frazier told Dallas News. “They broke the law, they face the consequence.”
In the past, Cruz has been vague when pressed about whether he would seek out illegal residents to deport them.
His amped-up approach came after he narrowly missed beating Marco Rubio in Saturday’s South Carolina primary.
