A HISTORIC OSCAR WIN IS IN THE BAG

The Art Deco compact purse carried to the Oscars by 1942 Best Actress winner Joan Fontaine is up for grabs. The floral motif bag (inset), which is adorned with diamonds and rubies and engraved “JF,” will price at $24,500 through M.S. Rau Antiques’ at the Naples Art, Antique & Jewelry Show in Florida on Tuesday. Before dying in 2013, Fontaine worked with Fred Astaire, Katharine Hepburn, Orson Welles and Cary Grant, who co-starred d in the film that earned her the Academy Award, Alfred d Hitchcock’s “Suspicion.”
