Report: Tiger has setback

- STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

TIGER WOODS’ golf future has been in doubt for months.

Now a new pair of tweets paint Woods as in even worse condition that ever before.

Robert Lusetich, who wrote “Unplayable: An Inside Account of Tiger’s Most Tumultuous Season,” fired off this tweet Monday: “I'm told #TigerWoods condition worsened. He can't move well; painful to sit. Sits in car with seat fully reclined. No forseeable return. Sad.”

Woods agent Mark Steinberg quickly denied the report, calling it “ridiculous” and “false.”

“The tweets that appeared this weekend about Tiger’s health are ridiculous and absolutely false,’’ Steinberg said in a statement. “It ’s reprehensible that ever y few months someone makes something up and it’s treated like a real story. Tiger continues to work on his rehabilitation and we will have an accurate update at the appropriate time.’’

When he last spoke to the media, Woods — who has had two back surgeries (microdiscectomy) in the past 18 months — said he had no idea when he would return.

“I have no answer for that, and neither does my surgeon or my physio,” said Woods at the Hero World Challenge in Nassau, Bahamas in December. “There is no timetable.”

Back then Woods said he didn’t even consider picking up a golf club saying, “I walk. I walk, and I walk some more.”

Lusetich further tweeted: “About 90-95% of micro d is ce ct omie s—like #Tiger had — are successful. He got unlucky. Not to say career's over, but no imminent return.”

The last time Woods competed was in mid-August at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., where he finished four shots off the lead at 13-under.

He was two shots from the top of the leaderboard going into the final round, where he shot an even 70. He is ranked No. 445 on the Official World Golf Ranking list.
