Don rolls to win in Nevada
DONALD TRUMP won the Nevada GOP caucuses Tuesday in a messy night of voting punctuated by allegations of fraud and intimidation amid an atmosphere of pandemonium and chaos.
In one of the wilder instances, two people dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes (pictured) appeared outside a Las Vegas high school where caucusgoers were arriving to vote.
The men held signs saying they were members of the New England Police Benevolent Police Association — a controversial group that endorsed Trump in December — expressing their support for the bombastic billionaire. “Make America Great Again,” one sign said. Despite the upheaval, Trump sailed to an easy victory, extending his current winning streak to three straight — after New Hampshire and South Carolina — and charging his already surging campaign with momentum heading into Super Tuesday on March 1, when voters in 11 states will head to the polls.
News outlets projected Trump the winner as soon as caucus sites closed at midnight East Coast time, leaving Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz to battle for second place.
With 8% of precincts reporting, Trump had the support of 44% of caucusers, compared with 24% for Rubio and 21% for Cruz.
Ben Carson came in a distant fourth with 7% support.
In a victory speech at his Las Vegas headquarters, the real estate mogul touted his winning ways.
“We won with everyone tonight. . . . We won big with the poorly educated. I love the poorly educated,” he said.
“A couple of months ago we weren’t expected to win this. . . . Now we’re winning, winning, winning the country … and soon the country is going to start winning, winning, winning,” he said as the crowd chanted “Trump, Trump, Trump!”
