Sitter slay rap in grisly S.I. tot death
A 16-MONTH-OLD Staten Island boy who died Sunday was badly beaten and sexually abused, authorities said, and now police have charged his pill-popping baby-sitter with his murder.
Anthony Delgado died from “blunt force injuries to the head and torso,” Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson said. The tot’s baby-sitter, Gloria Fields, 31, was charged Tuesday night with murder, aggravated sexual abuse and seven counts of assault.
She had been questioned by police since Sunday, and held on a bench warrant for a traffic violation until cops charged her with murder.
The woman’s boyfriend was questioned and released and is not considered a suspect, sources said.
Anthony was found unconscious at about 10 p.m. Sunday in his mother’s apartment in Park Hill. Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Tuesday that Anthony had “bruises on his face.”
Anthony’s mom, Marta Delgado, 25, had left the toddler with the sitter to concentrate on moving to a new apartment, police and sources said.
