Just dying for end to deports

ANTI-DEPORTATION activists held a “die-in” Tuesday to get President Obama to stop sending illegal immigrants back to their Central American countries.

The group gathered at Manhattan’s Federal Plaza to protest recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts to seek out and deport illegal immigrants who arrived after May 2014.

On Jan. 2, roughly 120 people, mostly mothers and children, were detained near the southern border, the group said. Within a week, almost half were deported.

ICE hasn’t carried out city raids yet — but the immigrant community is fearful, activists said.

“These are folks who are coming to seek asylum, and the U.S. government is saying they don’t have a real reason to fear for their lives,” said 34-year-old activist Charlotte Gossett Navarro.

“But we have evidence that 83 deported people have been killed in Central America since 2014,” she said.
