Tale of Shel’s ‘quiet’ gal stuns neighbor
THE LICENSE plate on Janele Hyer-Spencer’s champagne Chrysler Sebring convertible sums up how quickly everything went bad: “WICKD FAST.”
The blond model-turned supposed Sheldon Silver mistress was described Saturday by a Staten Island neighbor as quiet — and by an Albany source as very pushy.
The neighbor said he was surprised to see the former Assemblywoman splashed across the Daily News front page after sources identified her as one of two married illicit Silver lovers referred to in court filings unsealed Friday.
Manhattan Federal Court Justice Valerie Caproni noted the “personal and embarrassing conduct” had “public ramifications,” given that the feds are alleging the disgraced former Assembly speaker used his former position to benefit both women. Caproni will sentence Silver on public corruption charges on May 3. “I’m shocked,” said Hyer-Spencer’s neighbor. “I thought she was a true professional.” Hyer-Spencer, 51, became a magistrate in Staten Island Family Court in 2013. She served in the Assembly from 2007-10 — and used her ties with Silver to bully fellow politicians and staffers, a source said. The “insufferable” Hyer-Spencer “wasn’t afraid to pick up the phone and call the speaker,” said the source. “There were (Assembly) members who actually loathed her.”
The second mistress has been named by sources as state lobbyist Patricia Lynch, 58, a former top Silver aide.
Even people close to Lynch said Saturday her days as a lobbyist are likely numbered, particularly since she was caught chatting with Silver on an incriminating wiretap.
“Can you think of anyone in Albany who will take a meeting with her?” asked one Lynch ally. “Forget about lawmakers. What clients are going to want to hire her?”
