your dreams
HE WORRIES HE WILL BE TORN APART
During the time my parents were getting divorced, I had a recurring dream that I saw large tornadoes threatening to come near our home. I was trying to get people to safety. Sometimes I saw a large mushroom cloud in the foreground as if a bomb had gone off. Please interpret these dreams. Sean S., Manhattan
Analysis: The tornado represents the familial chaos sensed during your parents’ divorce. This was a time when things were spinning out of control. As such, the dream reveals fears of being uprooted from your home and ripped away from your surroundings. Worse: One understands that you are torn apart emotionally. In a similar motif, the mushroom cloud reveals the sense of devastation and annihilation. It signals finality, the dark end of everything as you know it to be. Perception is bleak: things are blowing up.
HE WANTS SOME SKIN IN THE GAME
I dreamed I was in a boat to hunt alligators. I suddenly found myself facing the wide open mouth of an alligator. It was between my legs in the boat. Luckily, I had a revolver in my hand. I shot bullets into its mouth and it died. Then I was in the water near the boat engine where a smaller alligator was trying to climb in the boat from the back. I used my hand to shut its mouth and kept it closed. I was thinking of making luggage or what I could do with its skin. What does this mean? Frederic B., Manhattan
Analysis: Phallic and sexual symbolism aside, the dream reveals a fear that someone wants a piece of you: In this sense, you are very nearly feeling the bite, the clamping down on your activities. So there is an infringement of personal space. In another view, entrepreneurial goals override and silence castration fears when you plan on outmaneuvering the crock by taking the skin off its back.
