Earlier Sunday brunch boozin’?

-

Brooklyn: Has the entire state gone insane? Why on Earth is it so crucial to our society that we “modernize New York’s alcohol laws” so that people be able to or sell or drink alcohol at restaurants or bars at 8 a.m. on Sundays (“New buzz on Sunday booze,” April 14)? “A boon to the Sunday brunch crowd”? Really? And the best reason: “The law has also become problematic when NFL teams play games in London.” Yes, two very big reasons to change the law.

Someone has clearly lost their mind if this is the type of issue that has become a priority now. For Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle to actually state that these are much-needed reforms makes me seriously wonder what type of people this state has been electing to the Legislature.

With thousands of people without good jobs, or any jobs, or any place to live or enough food for their families to eat, who are wondering how they will make ends meet each day, the most important thing our state government can come up with to deal with is doing away with a law that bans drinking or selling alcohol before noon on Sundays. What stupidity will our legislators come up with next, and when will we start electing people who care about fixing real issues?

Some prison sense

Whitestone: It would be irrational to consider removing an established detention facility from a secured island and establishing new, regional facilities in residential neighborhoods where they would not be welcome (“End Rikers? City had look,” April 15). If Rikers needs renovation, renovate it, but don’t shove these new facilities down our throats. Surely the community boards would agree. Frank Basile

Trump’s the one

Bronxville, N.Y: I live in Westchester County and have a large number of friends and family. We are all for Donald Trump, as he is the only person running who can put our country back on track. How could you oppose Trump when 60% of New Yorkers are for Trump? Are you all crazy? We all stopped our home delivery of your paper as of this morning due to your cover (“Never Trump,” April 14). I will never look at your paper again, as I do not trust what I read! John Kasich is an idiot who has stayed in this race far too long. Do the math before you piss off New Yorkers! Why are you trying to go out of business? Cindi Barna

Reach for the stars

Calistoga, Calif.: The question isn’t whether or not Bernie Sanders’ goals are reachable but rather, why not reach for them? How have Democrats drifted so far to the point where prioritizing education and universal health care, and ridding money from politics, are deemed utopian goals, while endless wars, lobbyist-driven legislation, the offshoring of jobs and corporate tax havens are just the way it is? It’s a matter of closing loopholes and reworking our tax base and putting those revenues towards healthier, long-term priorities that will make our society better, smarter and happier. Such a shift won’t happen overnight, but having a leader who truly believes in these priorities is the best way to move us in that direction.

Clinton’s immigration scheme

South Farmingdale, L.I.: Hillary Clinton, the blustering windbag, the ultimate bureaucrat, now wants to create another federal agency, to help newcomers integrate into American life (“Her plan for immig office,” April 14). Another more accurate phrase would be initiating and brainwashing more future Democrats for the reservation. Mike Pedano

Cruzin’ 42nd St.

Hudson, N.Y.: I just finished reading a news item related to Sen. Ted Cruz (“Ted Cruz’s two young daughters watch as GOP presidential hopeful talks about watching porn with Sandra Day O’Connor,” April 14). I’m 77 and now know my bucket list wish before I leave this crazy world. I would like to sit next to Cruz in his pink panties with his New York values sign and Justice O’Connor selling sex toys on 42nd St. in the great City of New York. Nicholas Cort

Oh, Hil, no!

Haddonfield, N.J.: I am shocked at how rigged this election is becoming. I was a New Yorker for 35 years before moving and continue to read the Daily News. You are so owned by either Hillary Clinton or the Democratic Party. No, I will never vote for Hillary. Shame on you; you have sold your soul for your job. She is the most corrupt person in politics. Listen to the people. There is a reason that Bernie and Donald are doing so well. Disappointed that this is what is happening in America today. Patricia Coyne

Making up our own minds

Brooklyn: Who died and left the Daily News editorial staff in charge of telling which presidential candidate the voters of our already over taxed country, state and city should cast their ballots for in the upcoming November 2016 presidential election? We are very capable of making up our own minds. Thank you for your advice but you should all go back to sleep. Amelia C. Petagna

N.Y. wanna-Bernies

Manhattan: I am a native New Yorker. The nostalgia of Bernie Sanders as being the “authentic” New Yorker is sickening to me. Subway tokens? Really? When was the last time he set foot in New York City? He left our great state to serve Vermont. And his idiotic supporters do not understand basic civics. If you want to vote in the state primaries for any office, you have to be a registered Democrat. Did these stupid kids go to high school? Are they even registered to vote in their own state? Did they vote or register in their legal state of residence? They are all — including Sanders — wannabes. Live here, work here, pay taxes, register and vote here. Otherwise you’re not a “real” New Yorker. Lynn Ann Castrigno

Bernie know-nothings

Tarrytown, N.Y.: Watching a local broadcast, I saw a reporter ask a young woman at a Bernie Sanders rally if she could name five Presidents. Well, apparently this was a very hard question because she had no clue and couldn’t answer! And she will be voting? Scary! Carol Culkin

Benghazi basics

Yonkers: Voicer Fran Harwood certainly would think differently about President Obama and Hillary Clinton who killed Moammar Khadafy and destabilized Libya which resulted in the massacre of a U.S. ambassador and three embassy employees, if her relative had been one of the four murdered. Obama and Clinton watched the siege in Benghazi and did not send help from Sigonella, Italy, only 22 minutes away. Instead, they went to bed, and the next day Obama went to a fund-raising event. They lied that the attack was “spontaneous” — on the anniversary of 9/11. They lied that it was caused by a DVD which only the insane would believe. Obama and Clinton are despicable liars who have created a legacy of deceit and disregard for the safety of Americans. Philip Tropea

Amazin’ disappointment

Woodside: I woke up yesterday like I have every day for the past 50 years as one of the biggest Mets fans around. Today, after reading “Shame on Mets” (April 15) about them selling their 9/11 jerseys for profit, I am embarrassed to be a Mets fan. Like so many New Yorkers, I personally knew several people who lost their lives on that tragic morning. To think that anyone could profit from those attacks and sleep at night is beyond me. I have always disliked the Wilpons for many reasons, but this just crosses the line so badly that I hope that there is a national outcry for them to sell the team. As a Mets fan, it’s hard to say this, but I guarantee you something like this would never occur with the Yankee organization. Harry Connor

Yankee score

North Branford, Conn.: It would be a good idea for the Mets TV crew to give Yankee scores as much as possible during the Comcast-YES feud. Blacked out Yankee fans are probably watching the Mets to get some baseball in. Usually a Yankee watcher, I tuned into parts of two Mets games and never heard a Yankee score or saw one go by on the crawl. Who knows? The Mets may pick up some new fans!

Follicle fools

Rockaway Beach: There should be a hair regulation in the sports world. I don’t like to see athletes with long hair in either football or baseball. They should take after the Yankees; the men look nice and professional. Carol Flaherty

‘Natural’ pitchers

East Meadow, L.I.: It’s uncanny how much Noah Syndergaard and Jacob DeGrom resemble my spinster sisters. Except for their attire, they could be twins.
