FBI grills her over server
DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL candidate Hillary Clinton was interviewed by the FBI for 31/ hours Saturday about her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state, her campaign said.
The voluntary interview with federal agents took place at FBI headquarters in D.C., campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said.
“She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion,” Merrill said in a statement. Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has faced a yearlong probe of whether her use of a private email server broke security protocols.
The questioning came after the embarrassing revelation that Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, had paid an impromptu visit to the nation’s top cop last week — casting a shad- ow over the impartiality of the Department of Justice’s probe, which is expected to conclude soon. Attorney General Loretta Lynch has acknowledged the impropriety of her brief visit with Bill Clinton, who crossed paths with her at the airport in Phoenix. He stepped into her plane for a private chat and the two only discussed social topics, Lynch said. In an interview with MSNBC Saturday, Hillary Clinton (photo) said she learned about the meeting “in the news.” “It was a short chance meeting” that both Lynch and her husband say was a mistake, she said. “Hindsight’s 20/20.” The federal probe has provided much fodder for Clinton’s Republican rival, Donald Trump, who says it proves Clinton can’t be trusted in the White House.
