Media family in telecom drama
He had become a successful business owner in America, but establishing the WIN TV and Radio stations in his native country was a dream come true for Trinidad-born entrepreneur Mohan Jaikaran.
But now, a year after his death, that dream has turned in a nightmare — with the television and radio station taken off the air by the nation’s telecommunications regulatory agency. The future of the popular media stationS, and their broadcasting license, are unclear.
Jaikaran’s daughters – Shantal Jaikaran, Anita Jaikaran-Dyal, Babita Shivdat and Cynthia Jaikaran – have been running the stations since their father’s death and licenses for the two stations are in jeopardy due to Jaikiran’s death and the nonpayment of fees, according to news reports.
What's happening to the WIN media firm in Trinidad? It's hard to tell by news coverage, but I’ve sent an email to Chairman Gilbert Peterson and Deputy Chairman Kim Mallalieu, Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, requesting a detailed official explanation.
