The Marlins acquired the rotation reinforcements they sought in a trade Friday that cost them four players. Right-handers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea were sent to Miami by the San Diego Padres in the seven-player deal.

Miami also will receive pitching prospect Tayron Guerrero and cash for right-handers Jarred Cosart and Carter Capps and two minor leaguers, pitching prospect Luis Castillo and first baseman Josh Naylor.

“The one message it does send is that we’re trying to win,” Miami manager Don Mattingly said.

The Marlins were unable to follow up the Cashner deal with a win. Tommy Pham homered and drove in three runs, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over Miami 11-6.

l Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Troy Tulowitzki each hit solo home runs in the first inning, Marco Estrada snapped a four-start winless streak and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5.

SMITH TO REHAB

Troubled pass-rusher Aldon Smith has checked himself into rehab.

According to TMZ, Smith, who is already serving a yearlong suspension from the NFL due to violations of the league’s substance-abuse policy, has checked into a treatment center. TMZ cited multiple sources when it reported the news.

The decision comes just days after Smith, a former 49ers firstround pick who is now with the Oakland Raiders, denied any link to a bizarre internet video that seemed to reveal him smoking a blunt.

The video, which appeared on a Periscope account that Smith had been using for several months, showcased a man and woman, not identifiable, smoking a rolled cigarette. No faces are shown, but at one point, a voice says “fire up session.” When the woman suggests it’s a bad idea, the voice says “They don’t know it’s me. It’s not like I put Aldon Smith.”

Smith denied his involvement Monday on Twitter, saying “Good try, not me.”
