Blaz & Stringer go at it
IT’S ON!
A day after city Controller and potential mayoral challenger Scott Stringer ripped into the de Blasio administration’s policies on a number of issues, Mayor de Blasio blasted his rival for “grandstanding.”
De Blasio also struck back at Stringer as clueless on Friday for pushing a plan to transform hundreds of vacant acres into affordable housing.
“I think it’s breathtaking how little the controller understands about this issue,” he said to Brian Lehrer on WNYC. “We’ve gone over this publicly many times.”
Stringer, reached for comment, fired back the at when mayor. “It’s unfortunate he’s resorting to silly personal attacks rather than actual management of the city,” Stringer said. “Perhaps we would be further along on issues like homelessness and income inequality if he paid more attention to details.” The latest bad blood between the two Democrats — who have been at odds before — began Thursday when Stringer claimed the mayor wasn’t doing enough to address several crises facing the city — including finding more affordable housing. He touted a plan to transform city-owned vacant lots into affordable housing developments. The city has given that plan the thumbs-down, saying that only a small amount of vacant lots are under city control and that the majority of those are already being developed.
