Bronx mom on the lam with 1-year-old son
A WOMAN accused of bilking elderly Chinese immigrants of $160,000 by running a “blessing scam” was indicted on grand larceny charges in Brooklyn on Thursday.
Xueken Su, 44, of China, faces four counts of grand larceny as a hate crime — a charge levied against her because she targeted victims based on their ethnicity, age and religious beliefs, prosecutors said. Su was also hit with multiple counts of grand larceny as a standalone charge.
The suspected con artist is alleged to have stolen approximately $160,000 in cash and numerous pieces of jewelry from two Chinese women.
“This is the second blessing scam we’ve indicted in as many months, in which brazen con men and women walk off with the life savings of their victims,” said Acting District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Brooklyn prosecutors asked for Su to be held without bail, calling her “the definition of a flight risk.”
Su’s lawyer said the Cantonese-speaking woman was brought into the country on the promise of legal citizenship and a place to live — and was now essentially at the mercy of her smugglers.
The judge set bail at $150,000 or $25,000 bond. COPS ARE SEARCHING for a missing 1-year-old Bronx boy after his mother disappeared with him, officials said Thursday.
Jasmin Cintron, who turns 2 on Monday, was last seen Oct. 4 with his mother, Suntaya Cintron, 23, at her Lambert Houses home in West Farms, police said.
When a child welfare worker went to the home to serve a warrant to remove the child on Wednesday, Jasmin and Cintron (photos) were nowhere to be found. City child-protection agency officials reported little Jasmin missing, according to police.
“The Administration for Children’s Services is aware of this concerning incident,” an ACS spokeswoman said.
“We are deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our city’s children and understand the NYPD is investigating this matter.”
