Celebrating our centennial, we combine a long-standing tradition of valuecentered academic excellence with innovative programming. Students looking to pursue STEM careers have a choice of indemand programs ranging from biology, chemistry, computer information technology and mathematics to secondary education degrees in biology, chemistry and mathematics.
Classes are led by industry leading faculty members in an open, supportive atmosphere. They teach in small classes with an average student-to-faculty ratio of 9:1, so you’ll get to know your professors — and they’ll get to know you.
Our STEM programs enable our talented students to make names for themselves while making a difference in the world.
For chemistry major Mayssa Gregorie, it started last summer in Japan when, as a freshman, she earned her place in the exclusive Nakatani RIES Foundation Summer Fellowship, a 12-week research internship at Osaka University. Combining the best aspects of a traditional study abroad experience with intensive high-technology research internships, the program is based on an award-winning internal STEM program model.
SJC Brooklyn STEM students also find opportunities closer to home. They have participated in the highly competitive Microsoft Data Science Summer Program, which is reserved for the brightest minds in mathematics and computer science in New York City. As part of this experience, students take all-day intensive classes with some of the best researchers in the country and gain in-depth insight on data collection, data cleaning and, most importantly, data analysis.
Others gain hands-on experience through prestigious internships that have included the international media firm Thomson Reuters, MLB Advanced Media and Google.
SJC Brooklyn’s STEM EMPOWERS Scholarship Program can give you the opportunity to join them — and share your love of science and math with future generations. Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation under the Robert Noyce Scholarship Program, the program provides scholarships for SJC students majoring in mathematics, biology or chemistry who are committed to teaching one of these subjects in a K–12, high-needs school anywhere in the U.S.
Selected juniors, seniors and graduate students will receive mentoring, academic assistance, assistance with teaching placement and a minimum of $10,000 for at least one year.
