Marshall: Take tweets off

- 31 28 BY SETH WALDER

CLEVELAND — Brandon Marshall wants Joe Namath to cool his Jets — at least a little bit — when it comes to his opinions on Gang Green.

At halftime of the Jets’ 3128 win over the Browns on Sunday, when Gang Green was trailing by 13 points, Namath called for a change at quarterback.

“Who thinks we should see Bryce Petty start the 2nd half? I know I do. It hurts to say this, but we’re not goin anywhere with Fitzpatrick,” the Jets legend tweeted.

At first, Marshall was hesitant to criticize Namath when he heard of the tweet after the game.

“I ain’t going to fight with Joe, they’ll throw me out of the city,” Marshall said, before playfully revealing his true emotions. “Joe can’t say that! Come on Broadway.”

Last week Namath criticized Geno Smith for coming out of the game with an injury but standing on the sideline. It turned out Smith had torn his ACL and was out for the year.

“I mean it’s four quarters. I would ask Joe, can you reserve your comment until after the game,” Marshall said. “That’s two weeks in a row that you’ve been wrong Joe!”

Marshall said he didn’t think there was any cause to bench Fitzpatrick after the first half, despite the quarterback completing just three of 14 pass attempts at that point.

“The first half, our game plan was to run the ball, see where we were at there. We ran it on first (down), we ran it on second (down),” Marshall said. “Sometimes we hit it, sometimes we didn’t. It put us in a tough position. We corrected it at halftime, came out, made a few plays. And that’s what it’s about.”

The wide receiver was goodnatured about Namath’s criticism of the team and was wary that he was ribbing a famous QB who is beloved by the team’s fan base.

“I like Joe. I have his number, we talk,”
