Inquiry into Don ex-aide
THE FBI HAS reportedly opened an inquiry into Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, over his business ties to foreign entities.
The inquiry has not yet been classified as an investigation, NBC News reported Monday.
News of the probe comes as the FBI reopens its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server and just one day after Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) alleged that the bureau was sitting on “explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisers and the Russian government.”
Manafort told NBC News, “There’s no investigation going on by the FBI that I’m aware of.”
Manafort resigned as Trump’s campaign manager in August after it was revealed in an Associated Press report that he once coordinated covert lobbying operation to sway American public opinion in favor of Ukraine’s pro-Russian government.
Manafort and his deputy, Rick Gates, never disclosed their work as foreign agents, as required by federal law, according to the report, which cited emails detailing covert positivespin work for Ukraine.
Another report the same week revealed that handwritten ledgers showed $12.7 million in cash payments designated for Manafort back when he consulted for Ukraine’s pro-Russian political party.
