Tebow may see speedy return

-

The Mets are hopeful Tim Tebow could be back on the field in the Arizona Fall League this week. The former NFL quarterback who is trying to break into baseball with the Mets was officially listed as “day to day,” after leaving Monday’s game with a right knee injury, Tom Goodwin said, “and we hope he’ll be back this week.”

Tebow injured the leg trying to steal second base in an AFL game Monday. Tebow had reached on a fielder’s choice and slid into second awkwardly on the steal attempt. He was thrown out on the play and came up holding his right leg. He walked off under his own power and was removed from the game.

“He was going to see the doctor today,” Goodwin said. “I think he will be back. We’ll have to see how he is (Wednesday morning).”

The former Heisman Trophy winner and Jets and Bronco quarterback is hitting just .147 (5-for-34) through 10 games in the AFL.

HARVIN TO BILLS

Retirement proved to be temporary for Percy Harvin, the once-dynamic playmaker who’s back in the NFL and returning to Buffalo to reinforce the Bills injury-depleted group of receivers.

Using the past six months to rest his mind and rehab numerous injuries that led him to walk away from football in April, Harvin was back on the practice field Tuesday, shortly after signing a one-year contract.

“It felt good, just the smell of the grass again, the smell of the pads when I walked in the locker room,” said Harvin, a former Jet.

Harvin returns to the team he essentially walked out on a year ago, when he elected not to travel overseas for Buffalo’s game at London. He said he might be ready to play when the Bills travel to play Seattle on Monday night.
