Muslim cop, son hate vics

- BY ROCCO PARASCANDOLA and BEN KOCHMAN

A MUSLIM off-duty NYPD officer, hailed as a hero in the past, became the city’s latest hate crime victim Saturday when a bigot in Brooklyn yelled at her to “go back to your country,” police sources said.

Officer Aml Elsokary, who was off duty and wearing her hijab, dropped off her 16-year-old son at Ridge Blvd. and 67th St. in Bay Ridge just before 6 p.m, police said.

After parking her car, the 34-year-old returned to find her son in a shoving match with the suspect, a 36-year-old white man.

When the officer — a native New Yorker — approached, the man called her an “ISIS (expletive).”

“I will cut your throat, go back to your country!” the man said, according to police.

Elsokary did not identify herself as a police officer and was unarmed.

Cops have identified a suspect and were trying to track him down Saturday night. The NYPD hate crimes unit is probing the episode as a “possible bias incident.”

Elsokary — who proudly wears her hijab on duty in the 90th Precinct in Williamsburg — was touted as a hero after she ran into a burning building to save a woman and her baby granddaughter in April 2014.

Responding to a call about a fire over the police radio, Elsokary and her partner rushed to a smoke-filled building on Scholes St.

After hearing a baby crying on the second floor, Elsokary — a mother of five — rushed up the stairs, used her jacket to pry open a scorching-hot doorknob and grabbed the frightened child.

She also scooped up the baby’s spooked grandmother and rushed them to safety.

Elsokary received a medal for her bravery.

The decorated officer joined the force shortly after the Sept. 11, 2011, terror attacks to “show people that the terrible acts of that day contradicted the teachings of Islam,” Mayor de Blasio said at a 2014 dinner at Gracie Mansion celebrating Iftar, the end of the annual Ramadan fast.

Elsokary politely declined to speak with a reporter Saturday night.

The incident is the latest in a growing list of bias crimes across the city since Donald Trump’s election.

Cops said that from Nov. 8 through Nov. 27, there were 34 reported incidents compared with 13 in the same period in 2015.

On Thursday night, three drunken white men repeatedly screamed “Donald Trump!” and hurled anti-Islam slurs at a Baruch College student waiting for a 6 train and tried to rip off her hijab.

There have been no arrests in that case.
