vious external perimeter,” he said. “I don’t believe you can do that on Fifth Ave.”
This weekend alone the strength of Trump’s security was tested twice.
First on Friday, Secret Service agents spotted an unhinged woman who sneaked up to the 24th floor of Trump’s home and headquarters. Valarie Blazek, 31, was ranting to herself when she was grabbed around 9:30 p.m.
Blazek was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell for a psychiatric evaluation.
Then, security forces were on the move with Trump on Saturday night when he left his home to attend a swanky costume soiree on Long Island themed “Villains and Heroes.”
The Republican hero showed up without a costume at the ultraexclusive fiesta thrown by hedge fund manager Robert Mercer, though Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway dressed up as Super Girl. The staff and security on hand were outfitted as Hells Angels and retro Salvation Army members.
Trump spent about an hour at the shindig, and returned home in time to grouse about “Saturday Night Live” on twitter.
While Trump will move into the White House in January, the burden of protecting the President’s family in New York won’t end then. His wife, Melania, and 10-yearold son, Barron, plan to continue living at Trump Tower until the boy finishes the school year.
Wackrow said federal and city officials would have to work out a new financial arrangement to cover the unique setup, rather than falling back on any established rules.
“You cannot have any kind of security structure at Trump Tower without the support of the NYPD,” he said. “There’s going to be a back-and-forth. It’s a negotiation.”
