Ramarley’s kin hit Blaz on cop case
LAWYERS FOR Richard Haste, the cop accused of fatally shooting Ramarley Graham in 2012, moved Thursday to consolidate his disciplinary case with that of two other officers facing departmental charges in the incident.
Advocates for the family blasted the move. They also took Mayor de Blasio to task for failing to meet with Graham’s mother Constance Malcolm while in office, after appearing with her when he was on the campaign trail.
“Ramarley’s mother and family have been forced to beg for answers,” said Loyda Colon, who spoke on behalf of the family.
“Mayor de Blasio ran on a promise of police accountability and dignity for all New Yorkers, yet he has repeatedly refused to meet with Ramarley’s mother and has lied to her about when Haste’s departmental trial will begin.”
Haste, who remains stripped of his gun and shield on desk duty, faces trial during the week of Jan. 17.
Royce Russell, a lawyer for the family, sent a letter to de Blasio and Police Commissioner James O’Neill Thursday about the long delay in disciplining Haste and failing to keep the family informed.
“The mayor has not spoken with any of the involved parties so as to avoid prejudicing the process,” said mayor’s spokesman Austin Finan.
The NYPD didn’t answer a request for comment.
