Gadgets make America ingrate

-

Brooklyn: Donald Trump says that he will make America great again. This will never happen due to the computer generation. As we walk through malls, streets, anywhere we see our youth, they are on some kind of gadget. As young as 1 year old, they “play” with them, even in carriages. How can something that can’t be policed work? It has put thousands out of work because people order products online. Identity theft occurs every day to thousands of people. It puts all the bad people together with one click of the button.

Our social skills have all but gone away. What about critical thinking? No kid can do it anymore without using their device. Now we have a tube on our coffee table ordering food and clothes for us. Now we have to worry about our elections being rigged or compromised. When it will it end? The answer is never. These gadgets have made us lazy and dependent on them forever. So, President Trump: Unless you take the electronic gadgets away, you can never make America great again. Remember: It starts with our youth. Frank Soldano

End times

Jamaica: I am convinced that there are thousands of Christian people out there, who believe, as I do, that Donald Trump was called to the presidency to provoke World War III (Armageddon) and then the second coming of Jesus Christ. Dahlia Johnson

Words to recoil from

Dover, Del.: Re Gersh Kuntzman’s column “Firing an AR-15 is horrifying, menacing and very very loud” (June 14): Every year I look back, reflect and reach out to the best and worst of the preceding year. His article was the worst I read in all of 2016. The general tenor and quality of news publications has degraded over time. Fake news and political hyperbole both have a negative effect. Kuntzman’s writing was low quality and generally made the world worse. Please rethink your vernacular and writing style as it appeals to the simplest of minds.

Steve Bayer Bridgeport, Conn.: Aroldis Chapman signs a contract with the Yankees for $86 million over five years. Baseball experts predict he will pitch 70 innings per year as a closer. That translates into 350 innings over the life of the contract, or $245,000 per inning, or $81,000 per out, if he stays healthy and perfect. When does this insanity end? And the sports pages will wonder why there are so many empty seats at Yankee Stadium. Because seat prices will go up again to pay for this outrageous conduct.

Deadly crossing

Bayside: I have been fighting for six years, writing to the Department of Transportation, City Council members, senators and Mayor de Blasio, about an extremely dangerous crossing at 26th Ave. and Corporal Kennedy St. in Queens. Turning drivers must yield; it is the law. Yet there are no traffic signs to direct drivers, who therefore proceed as pedestrians cross. One woman was killed while crossing, another badly injured. I was nearly struck twice. DOT must install “yield to pedestrian” signs. Instead, it would seem they are awaiting another fatality. Sarah Alboher

The riot act

Manhattan: Let’s get this right. Hillary Clinton got more votes because she won California, New York and New Jersey — big states with big populations. That’s why there’s an Electoral College: The Founders had it right. The liberal media and the left should stay quiet. If you mess with the Electoral College, there will be riots, not just angry white men, as the Clintons say, but a lot more. Get over it, corrupt Clintons — you got what you get and should be locked up. Just be quiet. And liberal media: You will get yours sooner rather than later.

Mike Stanley

Time’s up

Middle Village: President Obama could win a third term? Yeah, right. Obama is just trying to save face since he tried to help Hillary Clinton win the election. She lost because she is even more corrupt than he is. Benghazi attack because of a video. If you want to keep your doctor. By the way: How did Nancy Pelosi get paid by the insurance companies to have to pass Obamacare to know what was in the bill? No, you have to read the bill to know what’s in it. She thinks we are all stupid. Please, Barack Obama, go away. God help President-elect Trump clean up his mess. Michael Geraci

Two angels

Brooklyn: During the Depression, as a pre-teenager, I was apprehended for taking a green apple from a truckload destined for a pie company. Frightened and crying, I told the police desk sergeant I took the apple because I was hungry. The comforting kindly sergeant suggested I join the Police Athletic League, and supplied the 10 cent membership fee. Later: I wanted to quit high school and join the Civilian Conservation Corps, having six months left before graduation. The recruiting officer strongly advised me to graduate, since a diploma would be necessary for me to obtain a civil service job. The result: Successful careers in World War II, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the FDNY. Always grateful, never forgotten.

Wheely bad situation

Brooklyn: We applaud everything Voicer Sharona Victoria wrote about the lack of wheelchair accessibility on the streets of downtown Brooklyn. We would like to add that traveling via MTA bus can at times be problematic, when drivers get annoyed at seeing someone in a wheelchair. Lisa Donofrio and C.G. Korteweg

Carrie-d away

Locust Valley, L.I.: Perhaps Carrie Fisher had been irrevocably typecast, as had the entire ensemble from “Star Wars” when it premiered nearly 40 years ago. In view of the popularity of its sequels to follow, and the worldwide success of last year’s “The Force Awakens,” there are worse fates that could befall an actor or actress. For whatever tribulations Fisher would subsequently face in her troubled life, the positive connections she made with her movie audience will endure forever. As for Voicer Gary DeBiase: Your comments remind me of Mr. Potter in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Jeffrey Converse

A bill from Bill

Flushing: New York City should present Congress and the Secret Service with a shopping list of all the security services required to protect the President-elect, with prices for each. They could then choose which services they can get for their $7 million.

Roll out the white satin carpet

Howard Beach: The Rock and Roll Hall of Shame will not have my respect until they recognize the creators of some of the most beautiful rock music ever written — the Moody Blues.

The lost children

Brooklyn: To Voicer John Rienecker: Your letter concerning the parents who lost their children to the radiator explosion describes just what this system is about: a heartless, loveless and hateful society. Your lack of compassion, understanding and mercy can be seen in your venomous letter. Just who gave you the right to judge these people? There are hundreds of thousands, just like this couple, who are down and destitute, and trying to stay alive. Instead of pointing fingers and deciding who should and should not have children, why don’t you do something with your life and volunteer in one of the many programs that New York has to help people in need. To the parents of those children who were killed: My deepest condolence for your loss. Joseph Denis

Law and disorder

Jefferson Siegel East Elmhurst: America and the injustice system are killers with blood on their hands (“Punch & judge-y,” Oct. 29). Proponents for death by police, parole, poverty, indifference or just plain incarceration. Take it from Robert Beltrani, an administrative law judge with the Department of Parole, who fled the scene in his car after a beatdown of a Legal Aid lawyer. He did this after bragging that he was a homicidal menace and sucker-punching the attorney. Wow! Tesfa Yohance Walters

From the horse’s mouth

South Richmond Hill: You mean we allow horses to actually pull wagons, carriages and coaches? Something that has never been done before in our country or the world. They are forced to eat oats instead of a nice warm meal prepared by one of New York’s top vegetarian chefs. They must sleep in a stable and not in places like the Trump Tower or Plaza Hotel. Tsk, tsk. Before you know it, human beings will start riding on their backs. Oh, the horror! We must stop these atrocities or we will become uncivilized savages. Joseph Napoleone
