Mom kept dead baby a day: cops
DETECTIVES ARE probing the mysterious death of a bruised 7-month-old boy who had been dead for more than 24 hours when he arrived at a Brooklyn hospital Saturday, police said.
His mother and grandmother brought little Dameen Mohammed to Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park about 6:45 a.m., police sources said. Doctors could not save him – and immediately alerted police after finding bruises on the tot’s back and chest.
The medical examiner’s office had yet to determine the circumstances of his death.
The child’s 25-year-old mother, Anwar Jawad, told police that she realized Dameen didn’t look well while she was at her home in New Springville, S.I., early Saturday. But instead of taking the child to the hospital herself, she drove him over the Verrazano Bridge to confer with her mother in Bensonhurst.
Once there, they decided to go to the hospital, she told police.
Detectives and investigators from the ME’s office converged on the family’s Elie Court home Saturday night. They spent nearly an hour searching the ground floor apartment for evidence.
Crime scene investigators could be seen removing and photographing items from a trash bin outside the home.
When cops approached Jawad at the hospital, she asked to speak to her lawyer, a police source said. No one had been arrested by late Saturday.
Neighbors of Jawad’s mother Dameen had a 2-year-old sister.
“I don’t think they did anything,” one neighbor, who wished not to be named, said about the family. “I’ve seen the (mother) come and go with the babies. (The children) were always well dressed ... always well fed. Those kids were never neglected.” said
