Towering rebuke on Fifth Ave.
UP TO 1 MILLION EXPECTED
WOMEN WHO aren’t going to Washington to protest Donald Trump’s election are taking the fight to his own backyard.
Thousands of women are expected to gather at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in front of United Nations headquarters at 11 a.m. on Jan. 21 for a march that’s being billed as a “little sister” rally to the big Women’s March in the nation’s capital the same day.
Participants are scheduled to walk west on 47th St. to Fifth Ave. and then up to Trump Tower at 56th St.
“Marching to the doorsteps of this tower to promote the advancement of equality and human rights for all women, minorities and immigrants sends a clear message to the incoming cabinet that we are watching,” organizers Katherine Siemionko and Hayley Dwight wrote on a Facebook page for the event.
“This march also sends a message to the millions of foreign onlookers that the United States of America is not racist, sexist or anti-gay. We, its citizens, believe in equality and stand ready to fight for it!”
More than 32,000 people have said they are interested in the event, and 17,000 people said they are planning to attend, according to the Facebook page.
Trump will be inaugurated Jan. 20.
Artists and activists got together Saturday at the School of Visual Arts on E. 23rd St., where they held a sign-making workshop to prepare protest placards for the local march.
The march is kicking off with staggered start times to accommodate all the people planning to attend.
There are also more than 30 other “sister” marches planned across the country.
