Tower-climb teen looks to take plea
THE DISTURBED Virginia teen who climbed Trump Tower using suction cups and rope in hopes of getting a sitdown with Donald Trump may resolve his case this month.
Stephen Rogata, 19, was in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday after his lawyer turned over medical records he hopes will favor his client in a plea negotiation. Judge Joanne Watters adjourned his trial to Feb. 27, in the event no deal is reached.
Rogata’s lawyer, Paul Shechtman, said his client has been receiving therapy and is doing well in college. “He’s far healthier than he was when this incident occurred,” the attorney said.
Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Pierre Griffith said he will brief officials at President Trump’s building “on where the case stands.”
Rogata made the Aug. 10 climb up then-candidate Trump’s Fifth Ave. building during the presidential campaign.
“My intention was to get a private meeting with Mr. Trump and give him secret information,” cops said Rogata told them.
