Hornacek: Don’t expect roster to change

- BY DANIEL POPPER

FOR WEEKS, Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks have been at the center of NBA trade speculation, but Jeff Hornacek isn’t expecting his team to make any moves before the Feb. 23 deadline.

“Whether you’re a player, a coach, whatever, you always believe nothing’s going to happen. And I think this is going to be our team,” the Knicks coach said Tuesday afternoon at practice. “We’ve had good stretches. We’ve had bad stretches. We’re trying to build something here before we go to the break. So I anticipate we have the same team.”

Anthony has a no-trade clause and can veto any possible trade. Nonetheless, he’s been the topic of various rumors.

The Daily News reported last month about the Clippers’ interest in Anthony.

Other outlets detailed talks between the Knicks and Cavs, as well as the Knicks and Celtics. On Tuesday, the Cavaliers announced that Kevin Love will miss six weeks after undergoing minor surgery on his left knee.

Phil Jackson, meanwhile, has made public his discontent with Anthony’s playing style — whether through comments on CBS Sports Network, via his writer confidant Charley Rosen, or on his enigmatic Twitter account.

Still, Anthony holds the power. And with the deadline approaching, he echoed Hornacek’s sentiment Tuesday.

“I don't really know what’s being said or what’s going on behind the scenes. Right now, this is the team that’s going to be here after the break,” Anthony said. “That’s what we have to look forward to.”

Anthony earned a deserved reprieve from the trade conversation over the last week, with the Charles Oakley-James Dolan feud dominating the spotlight.

“It’s about time,” Anthony said, jokingly, when asked about his situation being briefly pushed aside. USA TODAY GETTY,
