Revis surrenders in Pittsburgh KO of 2
DARRELLE REVIS, who witnesses say spent a few hours drinking before allegedly knocking two men stiff in a Pittsburgh street brawl, quietly surrendered Friday night.
The Jets star said nothing to reporters or fans seeking autographs as he was released without bail at his arraignment and ordered to stay away from his alleged victims.
The four-time All Pro cornerback walked into a municipal courthouse just after 7 p.m. to face charges linked to the alleged assault ignited when one of the victims questioned whether Revis was really Revis. He walked out without uttering a word less than three hours later.
Days earlier, the 31-year-old knew just what to say after flattening Dallas Cousins, 22, of Kittanning, Pa., and roommate Zacheriah Jarvis, 21, when he turned his fistic ferocity toward their pal, according to a police criminal complaint.
“Do you want to be next?” Revis asked witness Nathan Watt as the other two men lay motionless on a streetcorner for 10 minutes.
Watt did not want to be next. Cousins wound up with a fractured orbital bone, a massive lump on his forehead and an inch-long gash above his left eyebrow, cops said.
Neither Cousins, Jarvis nor Watt could swear that Revis delivered the twin KOs around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
“I don’t know, it happened so fast,” said Watt, who escaped unscathed.
Cousins told cops that he remembered arguing with Revis about video shot on his phone — and then waking up to find police asking what happened.
The 5-foot-11, 198-pound Revis was drinking for several hours at the south Pittsburgh bar The Library before the one-sided punchup, a witness told WPXI-TV.
The defensive back was also spotted outside two other South Side bars: The Flats on Carson and the White Eagle, according to cops. Video of the incident captured on Cousins’ phone showed Revis standing outside the White Eagle.
“Why are you following me?” the Pro Bowler asks several times.
The video cuts off before the blows were thrown, according to the complaint. Revis was charged with two counts of assault, robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit assault.The bars closed about 30 minutes before the encounter began when Cousins saw Revis on the street and asked if he was the 2009 AFC defensive player of the year.
When Revis replied yes, according to the complaint, Cousins replied, “No, you’re not.”
Revis became angry at that point, with Cousins claiming the NFL star “pushed him in the chest and told him to get out of his face.”
Things escalated when Cousins used his phone to shoot the video of Revis. Revis yanked the phone from Cousins and tried to smash the device in the street. The punches then starting flying, cops said.
A relative told the Daily News that Cousins is a nursing student at Robert Morris University in Moon, Pa.
“This is no wild kid that goes around getting in trouble,” the relative said. “He’s always been a wonderful kid.”
Revis, whose mother and aunt were in the courtroom, was arraigned via video feed from a nearby holding cell and was ordered to surrender his passport. He is due back in court Feb. 23.
There are rumblings that the Jets will cut the fading star unless he’s willing to restructure his $70 million contract. Any deal needs to come before March 10, when Revis is due a $2 million roster bonus.
