Activist must keep away from cop big
A ROW of attached homes in the Bronx were destroyed by a fast-moving fire Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The blaze broke out on the top floor of a two-story home on College Ave. by E. 169th St. in Claremont at about 1:30 p.m.
It quickly spread to the house’s attic, then to five other buildings, an FDNY spokesman said.
The blaze left at least five firefighters and one other person with minor injuries, officials said. Firefighters got the flames under control about two hours later. A LOS ANGELES judge upheld a restraining order against a Black Lives Matter activist on Wednesday, in a move the man’s lawyer called a “precedent-setting” blow to free speech.
Lawyer Nana Gyamfi said she plans to appeal the order barring Trevor Ferguson, 35, from personal contact with Los Angeles Police Commission head Matt Johnson.
The order prohibits Ferguson from visiting Johnson’s home or law office and says he must stay at least 15 feet from the commission head during the panel’s meetings.
“This is all part of the intimidation” of Ferguson and his fellow BLM members, Gyamfi told the Daily News after Judge Carol Boas Goodson’s Los Angeles County Superior Court ruling. “They will not be intimidated in the commission meetings. They will not be intimidated in the streets. So they say, ‘Let’s intimidate them in the courts.’ ”
Johnson, one of two black commissioners on the five-member civilian oversight board, said he supports the First Amendment but fears for his family’s safety after Ferguson allegedly referred to his son at a Nov. 1 commission meeting and later showed up at his house.
