SMILIN’ SICKO
‘DWI slay’ traffic agent makes it a joke in court
IT’S ONE sick joke.
The NYPD traffic agent whose allegedly drunken wreck on the Williamsburg Bridge horrifically killed 21-year-old Amanda Miner grinned (photo) — and even appeared to be laughing at one point — as he was photographed leaving the courthouse after a brief appearance Tuesday. Stefan Hoyte, 26, was flanked by relatives who tried to cover his smiling face with clothing. He could not contain his amusement even though Miner’s devastated family has had less than a week to process her tragic death.
Both Hoyte’s vehicle and Miner’s body had been severed in half by the impact.
Hoyte, outside the courtroom, ignored reporters when asked if he had anything to say to the survivors of the young aspiring social worker.
“No!” snapped a woman, one of his supporters, who would not identify herself.
During his brief appearance, prosecutors said they were awaiting toxicology results to determine Hoyte’s blood alcohol content from the night of the deadly crash.
Hoyte, who told cops he had two drinks, was driving his pal Michael Camacho, 24, also an off-duty traffic enforcement agent, and Miner, a Lafayette College junior.
She had just celebrated her 21st birthday with her family hours prior and was in the car with Hoyte and Camacho during the crash around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Hoyte was allegedly driving about 50 to 60 mph in a 35-mph zone.
The driver, who is free on $100,000 bail, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Prosecutors intend to present his case to a grand jury by April 30.
He is due back in court May 8.
