Harvey hammy not hurting

-

PHILADELPHIA — Matt Harvey is fine. The Mets righthander who left his start Tuesday night with a “tight” left hamstring said Wednesday he did not feel any aftereffects of the cramp that had forced him out in the sixth inning of the Mets romp over the Phillies.

“Nothing, it’s fine,” said Harvey, who had said the same after Tuesday night’s game.

He and Terry Collins said there was no concern about him making his next scheduled start, which is scheduled for Sunday in Miami.

“He’s fine,” Collins said. “No issue.”

That’s a rare piece of good injury news for the Mets, who already have two pitchers down to injury. Lefty starter Steven Matz (left elbow discomfort) and righthanded long-man Seth Lugo (torn ulnar collateral ligament) began the season on the disabled list, cutting into the Mets’ once ample pitching depth.

Harvey is making his second comeback from serious surgery in three years. He missed the 2014 season after Tommy John surgery and then was shut down in July of last season with circulation issues. He was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and had surgery to remove his top rib to allow for better blood flow in his arm.

After a slow start to spring, where his arm was clearly weakened by the inactivity that showed in his velocity, Harvey has made steady progress since late March. He went 5.2 innings on Tuesday night and earned his second win of the season. He is pitching to a 2.92 ERA over 12.1 innings.
