Lheading Coachella this weekend, has sold millions of records, sung at the Oscars and scored a Golden Globe for her turn in “American Horror Story” — but she still had to audition for the leading role in “A Star Is Born.”
Warner Bros. execs had the 31-year-old performer (photo inset) deliver a live audition for her role in the upcoming remake. Sources said co-star who is making his directorial debut with the film, was surprised by the request but was offered the part after a 10-minute audition.
The couple has been filming this weekend in Palm Springs, Calif., close to where the singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, performed at the Coachella Music Festival, which was also filmed for the flick.
A movie insider close to Gaga said: “It was amazing, really, that Stefani took that request from Warners so well. I mean she is a superstar performer with an award winning track record in music and acting — so to be asked to try out was seen so f---ing rude.”
The source continued: “But she took it in her stride and went in with Bradley and nailed it. Bradley had her back from day one. In his mind there was only one artist for the job, and that was her.”
Cooper and Gaga have been working on scenes, songs and ideas for months and she is reportedly “determined to make this the role which defines her career.”
This will be the third remake of the movie. The story about a down-and-out actor who has a passionate romance with an upcoming performer was first made in 1937. The first musical version of the movie scored an Oscar nomination for Judy Garland in 1954, and the next remake was a huge hit for
