His rich rewards
PRESIDENT Trump’s tax plan calls for getting rid of the alternative minimum tax — the same tax he got slammed with in 2005. Trump paid $31 million to cover the AMT levy, according to a portion of his federal income taxes leaked last month. His tax rate of roughly 25% on $150 million in earnings would have been just 3.5% if the tax did not exist. While the tax break would benefit the President and his family, it’s unclear by how much. Trump has refused to voluntarily release his tax returns, because, he says, they’re under audit. At a briefing announcing the proposal, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Trump “has no intention” of releasing his tax returns to the public.
