hit with two out and runners in scoring position and that is huge.”

The win was a huge boost for the Mets, who are still trying to get over the shock of having lost Cespedes and Syndergaard in a four-day span. They are learning a lot about themselves and that maybe they don’t have to be so dependent on near-perfect pitching and power.

The Met rotation, already stretched thin with injuries to Steven Matz and Seth Lugo, has struggled of late. The starters have allowed 21 earned runs over the last four games.

“Yeah, it is a little bit surprising,” Collins said. “I don’t know, again, a lot of times, in these situations, do they say ‘Hey, I got to step up here.’ Then they end up putting more pressure on themselves. Just go pitch. They are all good enough to get deep into games.”

On this night, Jacob deGrom

A@TravisStone had to struggle just to do that. He could only go five innings and allowed a seasonhigh five runs, but that was enough for the offense to give him his second win of the season.

“The most important thing, we got a win tonight. Yeah, the outing was frustrating for me,” deGrom said. “I feel good early on, but I don’t know what’s happening later in the game. I am trying to do too much or something out there or for some reason lose control.

“It was not a very good effort for me tonight and these guys did a good job picking me up.” fter losing two of their biggest players and suffering through a rash of injuries, the Mets are learning a lot about themselves as a team. Maybe they are not the one-dimensional team everybody thought they were.
