Toking driver hits and kills man, 67: DA

A RUNAWAY carriage horse escaped from her driver on the way back to her Hell’s Kitchen stable, galloping into traffic as onlookers watched in shock Tuesday.

The 12-year-old mare named Goldie was ultimately corralled, safe and sound, by cops just before 5 p.m., sources said.

Goldie was being brought back to the Clinton Park Stables on 52nd near 11th Ave. when she broke free, sources said.

Video posted on Twitter shows the equine rushing down W. 54th St., from 11th to 10th Aves., as a motorist yells, “Stop the horse! ”

Harlem-based artist Tyler A POT-SMOKING driver who told cops he uses weed to take the edge off parenting struck and killed a senior citizen as he crossed a Queens street, prosecutor­s said said Tuesday.

Jinhe Niu, 67, was walking along 46th Ave. near 149th St. in Flushing when a silver Ford Explorer struck him just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, cops said.

Niu was just three blocks from his home. Medics rushed him to Flushing Hospital Medical Center, where he died.

The driver, Wesley Leung, 46, was charged with vehicular manslaught­er and driving while ability impaired. He told cops he had a single Heineken beer with dinner, prosecutor­s said.

He told police he smokes marijuana whenever he gets the chance, using it on Sunday night, but abstained Monday, according to a criminal complaint.

“I use marijuana at night after I put the kids to bed to relax, but I did not use any today,” he said, according to the complaint. Wallach said he saw the escape from Annabel, a restaurant at Ninth Ave. near 53rd St., where he works.

“Without quite knowing what to do, the rider attempted to secure his other horse, while onlookers began filming and blocking traffic,” Wallach said.

Stable manager Conor McHugh said Goldie was being led to her stall inside the stable when she ran. She rounded the block, bounded to Ninth Ave,, and returned home, where cops and stable workers were waiting, he said.
