Pryor not the happiest of Jet campers

-

CALVIN Pryor was present for Jets OTAs Tuesday in Florham Park after skipping last week’s opening session. But the safety spent most the morning and early afternoon working with the third team, paired with Ronald Martin. Rookies Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye — who the Jets selected in the first and second rounds of this spring’s draft, respectively — served as the first-team pairing, while Doug Middleton and Rontez Miles played safety for the second team.

Pryor refused to speak with the media in the locker room after practice. He hasn’t spoken publically since general manager Mike Maccagnan used his first two draft picks, including the No. 6 overall pick, on safeties. While on the sideline watching practice, Pryor appeared disengaged, sitting on his helmet away from teammates. Coach Todd Bowles said Tuesday was not Pryor’s first OTA this spring. That means Pryor showed up at One Jets Drive on either Wednesday or Thursday of last week.

In the aftermath of the draft, when discussing how the Adams and Maye selections will affect Pryor’s role, Bowles said: “If you’re afraid of competition. You don’t need HOWARD SIMMONS DAILY NEWS to be here."

Bowles was asked Tuesday if Pryor is buying into that mindset.

“You’re going draft people every year” Bowles said. “So if anybody’s going to cry about somebody drafting somebody at their spot and not go out there and play, this is not the league for them. I wasn’t specifically talking about Calvin.”

QUICK HITS

Eric Decker was not present for Tuesday's session after attending last Tuesday. Bowles did not offer an explanation for Decker’s absence other than saying, “It’s voluntary.”

l Robby Anderson refused to comment on his arrest at music festival in Miami earlier this month, citing a pending legal situation.
