Mad customers turn fruit into jawbreaker

- BY ANDY MAI and JOHN ANNESE

HOLY guacamole!

Two customers at a deli near Yankee Stadium went bananas over a botched food order, and started chucking avocados so hard they broke a man’s jaw, police said.

The entire avocado assault was caught on video, which cops released Tuesday.

The men were shopping at the Stadium Gourmet Deli on E. 161st St. and Walton Ave. in the Bronx at about 4:45 a.m. May 29, when they flipped out and pitched the fruits like fastballs, cops said.

The pair became enraged when the cook got their orders wrong, possibly because of a language barrier, police sources said.

Samouel Saleh, 29, a supervisor at the deli, said one of the men ordered a sandwich, then started arguing with a cashier.

“Then he started to throw the avocado in his face,” Saleh said.

Video footage shows one man, his hair shaved close and dressed in a black T-shirt with a graphic print, grabbing an armful of $2 avocados from a display near the counter.

He scowls, then starts throwing them, one at a time, at the employee, who clutches his face and collapses.

A bearded man, dressed in jeans, a white shirt and a blue vest, and holding his belt in his hand, joins in moments later.

He grabs a handful of avocados and starts hurling them, lashes his belt in the air, and pulls down a store display.

The first man can be seen jumping over the counter before he snatched a bunch of bananas and tossed them at the workers.

The 21-year-old clerk, identified by sources as Amir Alzabibi, who bore the brunt of the attack suffered fractures to his face and a broken jaw, cops said. Medics took him to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

Saleh said the clerk was also struck in the left eye.

“He can see and everything, but he feels pain. It’s not 100% OK,” he said.

Cops are asking anyone with information about the attackers to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
