‘Rage’ cop got hit: EMT

- BY CHRISTINA CARREGA

AN NYPD officer, accused of fatally shooting a Brooklyn man in a fit of road rage while off duty, had a swollen face after the incident, a first responder testified Tuesday.

“I gave him an ice pack for his right jaw, saw swelling right away,” said Ebony McBride, an FDNY emergency medical technician who helped Officer Wayne Isaacs on July 3, 2016.

Isaacs, 38, has been indicted by the state attorney general’s office for the killing of Delrawn Small at the corner of Bradford St. and Atlantic Ave. in East New York.

Small, 37, was seen on surveillance video approaching Isaacs’ car, then getting shot and collapsing between two parked vehicles.

In a pretrial hearing Tuesday. Isaacs’ attorneys Stephen Worth and Michael Martinez challenged whether four of the eight statements their client made were given voluntarily.

“He said he was punched in the face and complained about pain to his face,” said Officer John Zielin, who did not notice any injury on Isaacs (photo). Zielin and McBride testified in Brooklyn Supreme Court about the shooting aftermath.

This is the first case the attorney general’s office is prosecuting since Gov. Cuomo’s executive order that the AG’s office handle deadly police-involved shootings of unarmed civilians.

Small’s Family, friends and several supporters packed the court room. “Why did you shoot? Isaacs could have made many other choices that day, but he chose to shoot and kill my brother instead,” said Victor Dempsey, Small’s brother outside of court.

The hearings are scheduled to continue through the fall. A trial is set to begin in October.
