LeBron still Heated about super teams

- BY JAMES MILLER

Don’t tell LeBron he invented the super team ... again.

After Draymond Green sarcastically referenced James’ “I don’t believe I’ve played for a super team” comment during Thursday’s team parade while sporting a Cleveland-inspired “Quickie” shirt, the outspoken forward stated, “You started the super team, bro!”

LeBron responded to Green during a Thursday night taping of “Road Trippin,” a podcast hosted by Cavaliers teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, as well as reporter Allie Clifton.

“No,” James said regarding Green’s comment. “I mean in 2003, the Lakers combined Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Shaq and Kobe. And in ’96, when Jordan was retired, the Rockets joined Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler all on the same team.”

“But I just feel like that it’s great that on the day you’re celebrating your championship, my likeness and my name is in your head,” James added. “I love that.”

A team that resembles the first modern super team is the 2008 Boston Celtics: trading for two established stars in Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, and seeing immediate success after defeating the Lakers in the NBA Finals.

As for never playing for a super team, however, the King must’ve forgotten 2010-14, when Miami’s “Big Three” of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh dethroned the Celtics in the Eastern Conference, winning two championships during four consecutive Finals appearances.

However, the three Cavs teammates were lighthearted about the situation during the podcast, with both Frye and James poking fun at Green.

James praised Kevin Durant, claiming, “he’s a talent of his own.” As for Draymond, he didn’t receive the same praise. “The other guy is such a great guy, and it’s like gentleman banter back and forth,” Frye said as he gave Green the ‘he who shall not be named’ treatment. “Oh, yeah,” James responded. “For sure.”
