Kennard likes Knicks angle

- BY DANIEL POPPER

FORMER DUKE star Luke Kennard has shot up NBA draft boards over the last several months — to the point where he’s now on the Knicks’ radar.

Kennard worked out for the Knicks about a week ago, the guard confirmed Wednesday at a media session in midtown. Several outlets previously reported the workout.

Team president Phil Jackson, head coach Jeff Hornacek and vice president of player personnel Clarence Gaines Jr. were all in attendance and conducted an interview with Kennard following the workout.

“It went really well, really well,” Kennard said. “I enjoyed it, enjoyed meeting the guys involved there and it was a good time.”

The workout “was very structured,” according to Kennard, and focused heavily on the triangle offense, which has been a point of contention ever since Jackson arrived at the Garden.

Kennard likes the system and thinks he can fit well into it. “You can make multiple reads in it, and I’m strong in that category,” Kennard said. “I was able to do that at Duke in different ways, and I liked it. I think it’s a good thing.”

Kennard said it would “be a great honor to play” for the Knicks.

“There’s so much tradition in the Knicks organization,” he said, “and I know that they are on the right track to success.” learned about the triangle offense while playing three-on-three for a short period. The system was a lot “different” than what he played under John Calipari.

“At Kentucky we only usually start from the elbow sometimes. We have like one play that starts from the elbow,” Adebayo said. “So starting from the elbow, like mid-paint area, is different.”

DraftExpress has Adebayo going to the Pacers at No. 18 in their mock draft. The 6-10, 260-pound big man said he surprised a number of teams during the pre-draft process.

“People are shocked that I can shoot the ball,” said Adebayo, who didn’t attempt a three all season for the Wildcats. “But it’s fine. I’d rather them see it now then see it during the season.”
