Prez blasts GOP ‘fools,’ vows $ cuts

- BY TERENCE CULLEN

PRESIDENT TRUMP, still reeling from a major congressional defeat this week, threatened to withhold money from lawmakers if they don’t pass a new health care bill soon.

“If a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly, BAILOUTS for Insurance Companies and BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon!” Trump tweeted Saturday afternoon.

The threat was part of a Saturday Twitter tirade in which the commanderin-chief said GOP members of the Senate “look like fools” in the wake of their failed bid to repeal parts of Obamacare.

Earlier in the day, he said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (photo) should undo the current filibuster rule, which has been in place since the mid-1970s. “Republican Senate must get rid of 60 vote NOW! It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country. 200 Bills sit in Senate. A JOKE!” Trump tweeted.

Senators passed the existing filibuster rule in 1975 that requires a supermajority to end debate on most types of bills. If 60 senators vote in favor, it goes to the floor to either be passed or killed.

But the President seems to have tossed out all hope that his 52-member Republican majority would get any help from across the aisle.

“Republicans in the Senate will NEVER win if they don’t go to a 51 vote majority NOW. They look like fools and are just wasting time .......... 8 Dems totally control the U.S. Senate. Many great Republican bills will never pass, like Kate’s Law and complete Healthcare. Get smart!” he wrote, referring to a bill that would enable harsher punishments for undocumented immigrants who break the law.

His tweets came a little more than a day after McConnell’s last-ditch effort to repeal parts of Obamacare failed, 51 to 49.

Trump began his morning on Twitter at 7:07 a.m. by retweeting a story from a “Fox & Friends” article about the ongoing Russia probe. “In other words, Russia was against Trump in the 2016 Election — and why not, I want strong military & low oil prices. Witch Hunt!

Fix the law, don’t shred it. Come to the table. Work together. For once.
