Sox beat Tribe & Kluber after trading for Rajai

Mitch Moreland hit a fifth-inning home run, Drew Pomeranz and three relievers bested Corey Kluber, and Boston defeated host Cleveland, 6-1, on Wednesday night.

Four pitchers held Cleveland’s injury-depleted lineup to three hits, a night after Doug Fister pitched a one-hitter.

l The Red Sox acquired speedy Rajai Davis from Oakland for minor-league outfielder Rafael Rincones. Hours earlier, Boston put center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. on the 10-day disabled list because of a sprained left thumb.

l Kevin Pillar hit the Blue Jays’ sixth home run of the game in the eighth inning, lifting Toronto over host Tampa Bay, 7-6. Pillar snapped a 6-6 tie with a homer to help the Blue Jays end a four-game losing streak. It was Pillar’s 13th homer of the season.

l Alex Bregman hit a three-run homer and Jake Marisnick and Max Stassi added solo shots to help Houston beat Washington at home, 6-1.

l Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth, lifting Kansas City at home over Colorado, 6-4.

l Tim Anderson singled with one out in the bottom of the ninth to score Avisail Garcia from second base and give the Chicago White Sox a 4-3 victory over visiting Minnesota.

NEW JERSEY OUT OF LLWS

Ethan Righter allowed two runs over 42/3 innings and had eight strikeouts as Fairfield, Conn. eliminated Jackson, N.J., 12-2, from the Little League World Series in South Williamspo­rt, Pa.

Hank Aaron stood up for Colin Kaepernick this week when he told BlackAmeri­caWeb.com he believes the QB is being blackballe­d by NFL owners who disagree with Kaepernick’s politics. “I think he’s getting a raw deal,” Aaron said. “If you look at all the quarterbac­ks in the league right now, I think you have to say he is 1, 2, 3, 4.… I wish somebody would open up and give him a chance to do his thing.”

LIBERTY WINS AGAIN

Sugar Rodgers scored all 16 of her points in the first half and the Liberty beat Indiana on the road, 71-50, for its sixth straight victory. Tina Charles added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Liberty (18-12).

BROWNS TURN TO KIZER

Rookie DeShone Kizer is Cleveland’s new starting quarterbac­k. Coach Hue Jackson has elected to go with Kizer, a secondroun­d pick from Notre Dame, over veterans Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler ..

l Rookie QB Mitchell Trubisky took snaps with the Bears’ first string in practice and coach John Fox said the second pick of the 2017 draft will play with the starters to begin the second half of Sunday’s third preseason game.
