Brandon’s back, Odell’s still out

- BY PAT LEONARD

BRANDON Marshall returned to practice Monday in a limited capacity for the first time since injuring his left shoulder on Aug. 21 in Cleveland, while an “improving” Odell Beckham Jr., per coach Ben McAdoo, remained nowhere in sight.

Beckham continues to be absent from the sidelines of practices, while plenty of other injured teammates or those resting made their way out to Monday’s practice fields to watch and chat with teammates and coaches.

Coach Ben McAdoo said Beckham is “with the team” at the facility, but the coach seemed sensitive to a question about whether Beckham was leaving the team at all for the laser-cell treatment he is reportedly receiving on his ankle.

“Where is he going?” McAdoo responded. “No, he’s with the team getting treatment.” McAdoo perhaps is sensitive to Beckham’s whereabouts after being questioned about why the Giants had let Beckham back on the Cleveland visitors’ sideline on Aug. 21 after injuring his ankle.

Either way, the coach said he is “hopeful” Beckham can play “tomorrow” and remains “dayto-day.” So Beckham’s actual status is anyone’s guess.

McAdoo, meanwhile, said Marshall “looked good” in practice, but while the veteran newcomer hasn’t played many snaps with Eli Manning this preseason, it’s unlikely he’ll suit up in Thursday’s preseason finale in New England with many of the starters expected to sit.

“We’ll just have to catch him up, we’ll see how it goes during this week,” McAdoo said. “If he’s ready to go, we’ll throw him out there. If not, we won’t.”
