B’klyn gang rivals stab man and dad

SIX MEN jumped a rival gang member Friday in Brooklyn and stabbed him four times — and then slashed his father when he tried to protect his son, police and witnesses said.

“That’s him! That’s him!” one of the knife-wielding men shouted before the group pounced at Pitkin Ave. and Thomas S. Boyland St. in Brownsville about 2:10 p.m.

Wilbert Caraballo, 47, and his son Christopher Caraballo, 21, had just gotten haircuts and were walking home when the violence erupted. “We were walking, like father and son, laughing, talking ... and the guy came from the back, grabbed his arm and’s like ‘BAM,’” the elder Caraballo said, reenacting how a blade was jammed in his son’s side.

“When he stabbed my son the first time, I jumped on him, that’s when the other guys came out,” Caraballo explained. All told, he said about five attackers knifed his son five times, two or three times while standing and another two to three after he went down.

“It’s probably gang-related, that’s what it is,” Caraballo said. “In Brownsville, Brooklyn, that’s what it is. You can’t hardly walk in the streets, you be afraid.”

Cellphone shop clerk Darren Williams emerged from his shop to find a gruesome scene.

“It was graphic,” he said. “His body was on the floor covered in blood. He looked lifeless.”

Medics rushed both victims to Brookdale University Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. The younger Caraballo underwent surgery Friday afternoon.

“It happened so fast,” Caraballo recalled. “I just tried to protect my son.”
