Andy: Probe Con Ed over train trouble
THE GOVERNOR is calling for a state investigation after a power surge in Brooklyn caused delays in the city’s subway system Sunday afternoon.
The surge, described by Con Ed as a “transmission disturbance” at a substation in Red Hook just before 1 p.m., disrupted power to the Red Hook Houses and delayed subway service across several lines for more than three hours.
“After a major ConEd power failure MTA emergency Responders have restored service, but extensive delays remain in A,C, E, F, G,4 & 5,” MTA officials tweeted Sunday afternoon.
Gov. Cuomo called the power failure “completely unacceptable” in a statement Sunday.
“Con Ed must be held accountable for the multitude of issues with their infrastructure that are too frequently impacting the lives of millions of New Yorkers,” he said. “I am directing the Department of Public Service to conduct an immediate top-to-bottom investigation into today’s incident — the status quo cannot continue.”
Cuomo and the MTA have blasted the power utility for past outages, including two at the DeKalb Ave. station in May that left straphangers in the lurch.
