Stomach ailment lands Rosario in the hospital
MIAMI — Amed Rosario was out of the lineup for the second straight game Tuesday. The team announced the shortstop was taken to a local hospital Monday night with an upset stomach. He was back at the team hotel Tuesday afternoon under orders to rest, the team said.
Rosario was also hospitalized with a stomach issue in July when he was at Triple-A. He missed five games with what at the time was described as food-poisoninglike symptoms. Sunday night, after the Mets arrived in Miami from Atlanta, Rosario got violently ill, according Terry Collins. While the team listed the official diagnosis as gastroenteritis, the Mets manager said he was not sure what the issue was or if it was related to the issue in July. “I would say it’s more than stomach flu,” Collins said. “When you were as violently sick as he was yesterday, it’s more than the flu.”
He thinks Rosario will likely be out today as well.
“As I sit here right now, I would doubt he plays tomorrow,” Collins said.
Rosario has had something of a rough introduction to the majors. He missed five games with a bruised right index finger, which is also an issue he dealt with in the minors. He missed a game with a tight right hip flexor. In 38 games since getting called up Aug. 2, Rosario is hitting .265 with four homers.
MATT’S IT
Matt Harvey admitted Monday night that he has no answers for why he is struggling so much to get back from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery. Collins had no problem with Harvey’s brutal honestly after he got pounded for a second straight start.
“I think it shows he’s pulling out all the stops,” Collins said. “He’s trying everything. He’s giving it his best shot and right now he doesn’t have a reason why things aren’t going well. I thought it was a good answer. If we had an answer, we’d fix it.”
NOAH’S ARC
Noah Syndergaard said he felt good Tuesday afternoon, a day after throwing a simulated game, a final step before he gets back in a game, likely this weekend.
