HERE COMES THE BULL – CONFIDENTIAL:

-

NO BULL HERE — at least not yet. Bensonhurst bred actor William DeMeo, who plays Sammy (The Bull) Gravano in the highly anticipated “Gotti” movie, wouldn’t be surprised to see the infamous snitch show his face in the old ’hood now that he’s fresh out of prison. “I’ll just say there are people in the neighborhood who’ve snitched and they’re back in the neighborhood now,” DeMeo told us by phone. “Now if you’d asked me 15 years ago ... But the way things are today, it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that Sammy was in Staten Island or Brooklyn.” Gravano, 72, was released from an Arizona prison this week after serving nearly 20 years for drug-related charges in New York and Arizona. But he most famously avoided doing a long stetch of prison time in 1991 by testifying against mob boss John Gotti, who was sentenced to life in prison. DeMeo says he’s never spoken to Gravano (photo), nor does he plan to. “I’m not here to pass judgment on anyone, I’m here to play a character,” he said. “In Bensonhurst, if you ask other people, I don’t think you’re going to get good feedback. He ruined a lot of people’s lives.” DeMeo said he even got some flak for playing Gravano.

“I had certain people in my neighborhood who know me say ‘I can’t believe you played a rat,’ just jokingly.”

The 46-year-old actor remembers meeting Gotti when he was a kid and remains friendly with the “Teflon Don’s” family. He says that John Travolta, who plays the title role in the “Gotti” film that comes out on Dec. 15, got it right. And DeMeo thinks the film’s producers earned some street cred by hiring him to co-star. “I think in my neighborhood people are just happy that someone from the neighborhood got the role and not some Hollywood guy,” he said.

DeMeo also says that mob fans who want to further see what Bensonhurst looked like in 1986 should keep an eye out for his new series, “The Neighborhood,” which is in production. “This is the most real look at the mob in the ’80s and in the Bensonhurst era,” he said.
