YANKS GAME DAY

- By peter Botte

Aaron Judge has everyone rising in the Bronx again after adding yet another massive accomplishment to an already astonishing rookie season. Judge belted two home runs for the second straight day to set the major-league record by a rookie — while becoming just the fifth Yankee in team history to hit as many as 50 in one season — in the Yankees’ 11-3 shelling of Kansas City on Monday in a makeup-game matinee at the Stadium.

Judge’s two-run blast against Royals starter Jakob Junis in the third inning and another solo shot against reliever Trevor Cahill in the seventh boosted his total to 50 homers for the year — eclipsing Mark McGwire's rookie record from 1987 — and to 13 in September following a six-week slump after the All-Star break.

“It’s an incredible feeling… It’s been an incredible ride the whole year,” Judge said. “I never really thought about (hitting 50 home runs). We’re in a playoff push. I just wanted to be able to do something to help the team get to the playoffs.”

Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez, the latter as part of back-to-back homers with Judge in the seventh, also went deep for the playoffbound Yanks (87-69). CC Sabathia gave up three runs on six hits over six-plus innings, with the runs coming on back-to-back homers by Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas to start the seventh. The veteran lefty walked one and struck out four to improve to 13-5 on the year (3.84 ERA).
