Giants still have pep after 0-3 start
Jason Pierre-Paul said the Giants’ players are determined to turn the season around but that coach Ben McAdoo still gave them a pep talk on Tuesday, perhaps sensing the palpable frustration of an 0-3 team.
“Coach McAdoo said some words to us and he really (didn’t) have to say no words to us,” Pierre-Paul said. “Coach McAdoo is our head coach and he is going to do whatever he can to keep the team together. … Way before the talk you could look in and you can tell the guys that walked in today weren’t very happy with what happened. They soaked it in. Everybody watched the film already .... We know what we need to do.”
Players around the locker room echoed Pierre-Paul’s optimism.
“We didn’t win a game but we’ve still got to be upbeat,” veteran receiver Dwayne Harris said. “We can still turn this season around, that’s what people don’t understand.”
“We’re not going to hang our heads low or anything,” wideout Sterling Shepard said. “We’re just focused on getting that first win.”
The Giants are trying to carry some positives from their Week 3 loss to the Eagles into Sunday’s visit to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers.
“When we play how we play in (most of the) second half (in Philly), that’s how we’re supposed to play the whole game,” Harris said. “Then we’ll start having fun again and everyone will enjoy coming to work on Mondays and Tuesdays.”
OLIVIER UPDATE
Olivier Vernon had a slight limp in Tuesday’s locker room but did not appear to have his injured left ankle heavily wrapped. He did not speak to the media. McAdoo said on a conference call Monday that the team will need to see how Vernon responds to treatment the rest of the week.
GOING FOURTH
The Giants lost in Philadelphia on Sunday despite scoring 24 fourth-quarter points. Per the Giants, the last team to do that GETTY was New England, which scored 24 points in the final quarter but lost at home to San Francisco, 4134, on Dec. 16, 2012.
