Yankees not up against it

will definitely help our bullpen, and I think physically it helps the players. But when you’re on a roll, you never want to stop playing.”

NOT YOUR DAD’S YANKS

This Yankees team is different from other Yankees teams for the following reason: they are a likeable bunch, featuring more homegrown youngsters than overpaid mercenaries. There have been several other fun things like Judge’s Chambers, dugout salutes after hits, the thumbs down movement and, most recently, “The Toe-Night Show,” featuring faux dugout interviews. Odd for a team that is always so buttoned-up and business-like.

“Yeah, it’s really unusual to hear a Yankee team to be described that way, but for me it’s enjoyable to watch what they do and the energy that they bring every day,” Girardi said. “There’s so many different people and so many different talents that we see . ... We see guys that have reinvented themselves. We see rookies that came up and play extremely important roles. We see guys hit the ball out of the ballpark, in the gap, run. It’s really enjoyable for me to watch these guys do their work.

“And they are easy to root for. Probably because they’re on my team.”

WHEN TO USE DELLIN

Dellin Betances is coming off back-to-back outings in which he faced two batters, walked them both, and got booed off the mound. It is not unreasonable to wonder whether he will be on the World Series roster, should the Yankees advance. Granted, he’s a four-time All-Star, so it would be a stunner.

“With the magnitude of the games you can’t allow sometimes a player to work through something where you might let him do it during the course of the season. You might give him a little more rope,” Girardi said.

“Dellin, we’re going to use when we see fit. The game really dictates when you use people. And you can get some different situations you didn’t expect to be in. So I don’t know my thoughts of when I can use him.”
