Big Blue breather for decimated team

-

IF ANY team ever desperately needed a bye week in order to hit the reset button, it is the 2017 Giants. After a 24-7 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday dropped the Giants’ record to 1-6, Ben McAdoo said he wants his team to take a step back from football as it heads into the bye week. “Just get away from it for a little bit,” McAdoo said about his message for his team. “We need to get away from it, we need to clear our minds, get our bodies back with a fresh outlook, as tough as that may be.”

It has been a disaster of a season for the Giants, who came into this season with high expectations after an 11-5 year. The defense has been inconsistent, the offense has gotten even worse and the Giants have been decimated by injuries on all sides of the ball.

McAdoo and the Giants need to build on whatever positives they can find in the final nine games. “We need to come back, we have a lot of football left to play,” McAdoo said. “We had a lot of fight in us yesterday and that needs to continue.”

TRADE BAIT

With no playoff aspirations left, the Giants have a team filled with veterans who are itching to make a Super Bowl run. Perhaps a trade could be in the works before the looming trade deadline ends at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31. “Never say never,” McAdoo said. “But I go back to yesterday. We played hard, we played physical against a very good football team. We didn’t get the results we were looking for, but we’ve got a lot of fight in us.”

NO KICKING WHILE DOWN

First-year kicker Aldrick Rosas missed a critical field goal that would have tied the game in the fourth quarter, but McAdoo reassured his confidence in the 22-year-old. “I see him kick on a day-to-day basis, he’s a young player that is improving,” McAdoo said. “He missed a kick. We want to have that kick. It ties the ballgame in the fourth quarter. He needs to learn from it. He needs to grow from it . ... I have a lot of confidence in Aldrick.” ... Right tackle Justin Pugh (back) and linebacker B.J. Goodson (ankle) were the most notable injuries, with Goodson walking on crutches in the locker room after the game. “Justin is going to be sore with his back,” McAdoo said. “Kerry (Wynn) came back and fought through it with his knee. B.J., again, we’ll have to see how he heals up and we’re just going to see how guys respond. We have a week of treatment to see if they can get healthy.”
